I bet LUCKY estate agents will read this article, and UNLUCKY ones wont

“unlucky people tend to focus on tension and anxiety, becoming so focused on the task at hand that they fail to notice unexpected opportunities or information.”

I bet LUCKY estate agents will read this article, and UNLUCKY ones won’t.

Are you feeling lucky today? According to a study by British psychology professor Richard Wiseman, luck may have less to do with chance and more to do with how we approach tasks and challenges.

Wiseman conducted a study focused on luck, dividing participants into two groups: those who self-diagnosed as lucky and those who self-diagnosed as unlucky. He asked all of the participants to count the number of photographs in a newspaper. On average, it took the unlucky people approximately two minutes to complete the task. The lucky people, on the other hand, completed the task almost instantly when they noticed an article on the inside cover of the newspaper, in bold type stating “Stop counting – there are 43 photographs in this newspaper.”

Through a series of tests, Wiseman concluded that unlucky people tend to focus on tension and anxiety, becoming so focused on the task at hand that they fail to notice unexpected opportunities or information.

In the world of estate agency, when asked, this could mean that an ‘unlucky’ agent might simply book a viewing and move on, while a ‘lucky’ agent might strike up a conversation and ask a few additional questions, potentially uncovering valuable information about the applicant’s needs and motivations. A house to sell, a mortgage required, a small rental portfolio unearthed.

There is huge potential value in your database and every interaction. So the next time you’re feeling unlucky, try shifting your focus and opening yourself up to new opportunities. You never know – it might just bring you some extra luck.

Or belt and braces, drop me a line and we can show you how to automate it!
